Mrs. Makarewich’s Class Visits the Kent Memorial Library

On Thursday morning, September 30, Mrs. Makarewich’s class walked to the Kent Memorial Library. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed looking for signs of fall as we strolled along.

Mrs. Rimany, Children’s Librarian, and Mrs. Hibbard, Library Director, met us at the entrance and invited us in. We proceeded to the children’s section of the library, found seats on the rug and made ourselves comfortable. Mrs. Rimany then read two stories that really held our attention.

We were next given a map that outlined the different sections of the Children’s Library. Mrs. Rimany explained where we could find magazines, nonfiction books, fiction books, autobiographies, biographies, reference books and the like. To test our listening skills, Mrs. Rimany gave each of us a scavenger hunt sheet and told us to find particular areas of the library. When we found the right spot, we put a sticker in the matching spot on our sheet.

As a final project, we decorated construction paper leaves that would be hung up for display.

Upon leaving the library, we all agreed that we had learned a lot and were looking forward to bringing our families in for a visit.

Our class would like to thank Mrs. Augusta and Mrs. Leach for accompanying us on our field trip and Miss Morrow for arranging our visit.
